Psalm 18:46-50

The LORD lives… (v. 1a) The very beginning of today’s verses struck me. The Lord does, indeed, live – among us, within us. Where would we be without Him being! The Lord spoke to Moses at the burning bush and told him that His name was “I AM”. At Freedom Road a couple of weeks ago someone shared the following poem, “I AM” by Helen Mallicoat:

I was regretting the past
And fearing the future.
Suddenly my Lord was speaking:

“My name is I Am.” He paused.
I waited. He continued,
“When you live in the past
With its mistakes and regrets,
It is hard. I am not there,
My name is not I WAS.

“When you live in the future
With its problems and fears,
It is hard. I am not there.
My name is not I WILL BE.

“When you live in this moment,
It is not hard. I am here.
My name is I AM.”

Helen Mallicoat

It struck me then and it strikes me now – the Lord lives! Now.

  1. I think that poem by Helen Mallicoat contains some good wisdom and is worth thinking about, but we need to be careful. In an attempt to emphasize God’s presence in the now, let’s not deny His presence in the past and future. Indeed, let us remember Revelation 1:8: “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

  2. On another note, I’d like to encourage all of you to check out (and perhaps subscribe to) The Doorway. a blog with about one post per week dating back to the beginning of November. Her latest post hits my heart. I strongly suggest going back to the beginning and reading it all. It won’t take that long. There are some really good thoughts on the Psalms, and meditations well worth thinking about.
